The Nencki Institute announces an opening for a 3-year PhD position funded under a research training network project NODPERCEPTION within the Marie Curie funding scheme (contract No MRTN-CT-2006-035546) . The successful applicant will work in an interdisciplinary research group of Prof. Sławomir Pikula, Head of the Laboratory of Biochemistry of Lipids. Joint advising of the candidate’s PhD thesis by Nencki and his/her home institution faculty is possible. The successful candidate will also have an opportunity to attend laboratory courses and seminars in the Institute’s PhD programme with approximately 90 PhD students currently enrolled.
The successful applicant will be expected to work on biochemistry, cellular biology and molecular biology of calcium- and membrane binding proteins, annexins, and elucidation of their role in intracellular calcium homeostasis.
Individuals applying for this position must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field and must originate from an EU Member State (EU-25) or an Associated State. Some experience in the specific research area of the project is desirable but not mandatory. Interest in interdisciplinary research and good knowledge of English language are required.
The successful applicant will be offered an 36-month employment contract (starting January 1, 2007) with the gross monthly salary of 2250 euro. After deducting compulsory health insurance, social benefits and retirement fund fees the net pay will be a the level of 1250 euro per month (approx. three times the national average salary level in Poland). The contract carries additional benefits of travel and mobility allowance of approx. 7600 euro per year (paid directly to the researcher on a monthly basis, no receipts required), a one-time career exploratory allowance of 2000 euro (lump sum), and 4800 euro per year for costs of laboratory consumables, participation in conferences, seminars and training courses. This last cost category is paid by the host institution based on actual receipts.
