Postdoctoral positions (stipends) at the Department of Medical Sciences, Uppsala University

Position 1
Studies of the role of interferons and Toll-like receptors in development of human systemic autoimmune disease

Previous experience of cellular and molecular biology/immunology methods is required.

The aim of the project is to identify and further study endogenous nucleic acids and autoantibodies that form immune complexes and the way the latter interact with Toll-like receptors and Fc-receptors and activate the immune system, especially production of interferons and other cytokines.

Position 2
Studies of the role of genes from the interferon system in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

Previous experience of methods in statistical genetics or molecular biological methods is required.

The aim of the project is to identify genes and their variants that are risk factors for SLE by genotyping candidate genes in a large, well defined cohort of SLE patients. Functional studies on identified genes will also be performed.

Contacts: Lars.Ronnblom@medsci.uu.se (position 1) and Ann-Christine.Syvanen@medsci.uu.se (position 2). The stipends are for 1 year with the possibility of 1 year extension. The laboratories are located at the research departments 2 and 3, Uppsala Akademiska Hospital.

Send applications (with CV, including research interests, publication list and reference persons) to Lars.Ronnblom@medsci.uu.se or to prof. Lars Rönnblom, Department of Medical Sciences, UAS, SE-75185 Uppsala, Sweden, no later than February 15, 2007.
